    STAEDTLER Marsclay, previously known as Faberclay (Mars, Plasticine, Polymer Clay) is the industry standard in the field of modeling clay for the automotive industry and numerous other design and shaping applications.
    Industrial plasticine or modelling clay, generally just referred to as clay, has been used for designing cars ever since around 1910. Although clay is primarily used by the car industry for designing purposes, more and more designers are beginning to use clay in other fields as well.
    Marsclay
    holds finest details, can be modeled by hand or with a milling machine, doesn't age, has practically no odor and can be finished by painting.
    It does not harden and can therefore be used time and time again. The clay does not dry up, does not crack and does not form a skin. By heating to approx. 60°C (140
    °F)
    , the clay becomes soft and pliable. At room temperature (15 °- 25°C) (59

    clay models retain their contours and edges. The clay bonds to common surfaces such as wood and rigid foams. Modifications to the clay model are easy to make and dust-free. At room temperature, the clay can be shaped by hand or using milling machines. The surface of the clay can be covered with foil or lacquer. Invisible repairs can be made to the model by simply adding clay. The model can be 'face-lifted' - even years later - by simply applying a new layer of clay.
    Casts of clay models can be made using plaster or silicon. Within a narrow tolerance range, Faber clay remains consistent regarding color and consistency.

    Description
    Mars Clay, comes from one of the largest clay suppliers for the European automobile industry.
    Mars Clay exhibits a high degree of consistency in terms of color hue and plasticity. This material, which has stable edges and contour accuracy, does not dry out on the surface and therefore does not crack. It is therefore also possible to change a model even after a number of years by applying more clay in order to achieve the desired shape.
    The clay when warmed adheres extremely well to base materials like wood or polystyrene foam and can be worked on at room temperature by hand or with a milling machine with good success. Even though the manufacturer says that models made from Mars Clay can allow molds using Plaster, Silicone and Polyester to be taken from their surfaces, we recommend that when using silicone (ONLY condensation-cross linked silicone) a trial run should definitely be made first in order to avoid inhibition problems.
    In comparison to Tec Clay, this standard clay is heavier but also considerably less expensive (the volumes of the bars are the same for both products, the density, however, is of course different).
